Council's Planning and Zoning Committee to Meet

The Granville Village Council Planning and Zoning Committee at its meeting Monday, February 4, 2008 at 6:30 pm in the Village Offices, has a busy agenda of very important items.

The Planning and Zoning Committee consists of Constance Barskey, Chair, Steve Mershon, and Jackie O'Keefe. "Here is your country. Do not let anyone take it or its glory from you. Do not let selfish men or greedy interest skin your country of its beauty, its riches, its romance. The World and the Future and your very children shall judge you according as you deal with this Sacred Trust"

Theodore Roosevelt
The meetings are open to the public and public participation is encouraged. The agenda items are important topics and their resolution will impact the future of Granville. The Granville Press will run complete stories on each of these items in the coming week.

The committee will consider:

  • Discussion of General Zoning Amendments (Draft Ordinance 03-08).
  • Update on the Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan was first enacted in 1964 and updated in 1990 and 1998. A joint township-village committee has been working on a 2008 update.
  • Update on Planning Commission review of draft zoning regulations for the Village Gateway District. Council has been working on zoning for the gatway districts for several months. The Planning Commission has reviewed it and their suggested changes are shown on the draft available here.
  • Discussion about flood regulations and the Flood Hazard Overlay District. The Army Corps of Engineers recently reduced the extent of the flood hazard zone and Granville's planner at the time missed the deadline to file a local regulation. Council is now considering extending the flood hazard zone back to where it was.
  • Draft property maintenance ordinance. This is an ordinance to ensure that properties are maintained. This is especially important with historic buildings that can not be torn down unless they represent a hazard. Permitting such buildings to fall into disrepair might let unscrupulous property owners circumvent the law and remove historic buildings to make way for modern commercial structures.
  • Discussion about a new update of the zoning code ordinances. Granville's law director has suggested several updates to the zoning code.
