Council To Select One Of Three Applicants For BZBA
At its meeting Wednesday evening, the Granville Village Council will decide how to fill the vacancy on the Board of Zoning and Building Appeals (BZBA) left by the resignation of Chairman Bill Heim. Three Granville residents, Brian Krieg, Rob Montgomery, and Steven Timmons have each submitted an application.
Brian Krieg of 226 E. Maple Street is a civil engineer working for Turner Construction as a Project Manager for Nationwide Children's Hospital projects. He has spent the last 17 years in commercial construction. He is a 7-year resident of Granville.
Krieg states in his application, "I would hope that Granville continues to be a quaint little village attracting visitors and families choosing to live in an environment that is a slice of the past."
He feels "trying to block Speedway and Arbys from 16 / Cherry Valley was silly."
"However, I do appreciate the thoughtfulness being displayed on the Cleveland Hall project and the emphasis placed on renovations / additions throughout the village," he wrote in his application.
Rob Montgomery of 215 S. Prospect Street is a life insurance actuary currently working for a large re-insurance company. He is a 13-year resident of Granville.
Montgomery wrote in his application that he offers "...to bring an open mind and give thoughtful consideration to the interests of applicants and the interests of the village as a whole."
He feels the best development decision in Granville has been "annexing the 514 acres of unincorporated township land, effectively blocking westward development in the City of Newark."
The worst decision, he writes, is "not having an airtight decision on the approval given to the renovation of Denison's Cleveland Hall."
Steven Timmons of 115 W. Elm Street is a project superintendent for a construction company. He is a 4-year resident of Granville.
Timmons wrote in his application that he offers "...to bring an open mind and give thoughtful consideration to the interests of applicants and the interests of the village as a whole."
He feels the worst development decision in Granville "was glass walls on a Denison University Building."
The best decision, he writes "would be annexation of property south to include River Road and Weaver Drive to control development."
The Board of Zoning and Building Appeals (BZBA) is an appointed committee whose duties include review and action on applications for variances, conditional uses, and non-conforming uses.
The BZBA is required by the Zoning Code to find criteria to approve these applications. The criteria for variances, conditional uses, and non-conforming uses can be found in the Zoning Code under Sections 1147, 1145, and 1149 respectively.
The BZBA meets on the second Thursday of each month in the Council Chambers at the Village Offices at 7 PM. Any application that is requested to be heard must be turned in to the Village Offices, no later than 21 days before the next scheduled hearing. Only complete applications with fee included will be accepted as filed applications.
