What separates Solar Panels from SkyLights from 'Flash Cube' construction?

I'm at a loss on this one...

We have turned down sky lights in the village on numerous occasions.

We nearly had a seizure over Cleveland Hall.

But when the concept of solar panels in the historic district comes up, all of a sudden they're ok - even good.

Politics be damned, either allow all of this crap or disallow all of it. Quit picking and choosing "WHO" gets the benefit of the doubt.

Making a "special exception" is the worst form of backroom politics and it stinks.

Just be consistent. It's really not that hard.

and oh, by the way, not knowing the law of the Village of Granville is no excuse to circumvent said law. On that fact alone, the solar panels should be taken down and disallowed until submitted properly and in accordance with the present law.

I hate to say it, but NoSpin makes sense on this one

NoSpin makes sense on this one.

Consistency in enforcement of the law is essential if government is to have any legitimacy. In this case, the law is clear, just as the law was clear in the case of Cleveland Hall.

The Planning Commission for all too long has been treading down the path of the end justifying the means: any distortion of the plain meaning of zoning ordinance language has been acceptable in order to reach the result the Planning Commission wants (note, however, in defense of the Planning Commission that the Commission at times has been mislead by errant legal advice - Cleveland Hall being a classic example).

While it is admirable that the Planning Commission wants to do what its members feel is best, the reality is the Commission is not a legislative body. That role is Village Council's alone. And, that role is executed by Village Council only after the opportunity for public input.

When the Planning Commission usurps Village Council's legislative role the Commission denies the right of Granville's citizens to have their perspectives heard. As with inconsistent enforcement of the law, this denial of citizens' right to be heard on legislative decisions works to destroy the legitimacy of a democratic government.

Solar panels don't glow at night

NoSpin,

You ask what separates solar panels from skylights and flash cube construction...

Just a guess: solar panels don't glow at night.
