Hope, Change and An Empty Suit
Somewhere in the last 25 years, the democratic party has lost its way. The days of a respectable liberal agenda (think John F. Kennedy, Tip O’Neill or Joe Lieberman) have been replaced with a far left, Socialist agenda (think George Soros, Michael Moore, Dennis Kucinich, Dick Durbin and Barack Obama) that threatens the American way of life. *** A great online article from American Thinker puts much of today’s political events into perspective:

Obama may be the McGovern of 2008
As the article points out, Obama is very far to the left. He is rated as the most liberal senator currently in Congress. That’s right; left of Hillary and left of Kerry. That takes some doing.
The democrat party went far left in 1972 and won only one state (Massachusetts). We will just have to see how well Obama can hide his true intentions and how perceptive the voters are this year. I am betting on the voters.
Democratic Party
It’s the “Democratic Party” not “democrat party. I urge gj to use the correct name.
According to Wikipedia (To the Editor: this material is not copyrighted):
The Democratic Party is one of two major political parties in the United States, the other being the Republican Party. It is the oldest political party in the United States and arguably the oldest in the world.[3][4]
The Democratic Party traces its origins to the Democratic-Republican Party, founded by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and other influential opponents of the Federalists in 1792. Since the division of the Republican Party in the election of 1912, it has consistently positioned itself to the left of the Republican Party in economic as well as social matters. The economically left-leaning activist philosophy of Franklin D. Roosevelt, which has strongly influenced American liberalism, has shaped much of the party’s economic agenda since 1932. Roosevelt’s New Deal coalition usually controlled the national government until the 1970s.
Oh that's right, they call themselves the democratics
Sorry, but the use of the word democrats to describe the members when the group is called the Democratic Party has always struck me as a bit of an amusing affectation.
The Libertarian Party has libertarians in it, not libertars.
The Republican Party has republicans in it, not republics.
The Green Party has greens in it, not gres.
The Whig Party had Whigs in it, not whis.
You get the idea.
