Granville Wins Tree City Growth Award
Jim Siegel, chairman of the Tree & Landscape Commission presented a report to the Village Council at its May 7, 2008 meeting. He reported that Granville received its 17th consecutive designation as a Tree City. In addition, Granville applied for and received the Growth Award for 2007.
Seigel went on to report that in 2007, Granville planted 32 trees, pruned 859 trees and removed 172 trees. During the year, Granville spent over $95,000 on forestry projects.

The Tree City USA® program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more than 120 million Americans call home.

The Tree City USA Growth Award is provided by The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America. This award is designed not only to recognize achievement, but also to communicate new ideas and help the leaders of all Tree City USAs plan for improving community tree care.
Last year, 523 Tree Cities earned the Growth Award by completing activities to strengthen their local tree care programs.
