Hubris! Denison Works Without Permit, Misleads Village
Construction workers built exterior steps onto the rear of Cleveland Hall this week. The workers also did exterior stone work on the building.
The steps reportedly are to let members of Denison's Board of Trustees tour the building. The Trustees are meeting in Granville this weekend. The stone work was reportedly done for safety reasons.
Denison did not ask the Village for a permit, as required.
Yesterday, Granville Village Planner Allison Terry said she had spoken with Scott Walker, Denison's Manager of Energy & Construction, and he assured her that the construction crew was not working, but merely accepting a delivery.
It now appears that statement was false.
Terry visited the site Friday and took pictures. She said she planned to speak with Village Manager Don Holycross about the issue.
On March 10, Judge Spahr voided the zoning permit Denison had previously received and forced Denison to stop construction until a new permit is issued.
Denison asked the judge to modify his order to permit some construction to continue. The motion was denied April 10th. Four days after the denial, Denison began working without a permit.
Judge Spahr voided the university's building permit - halting construction - after ruling that the proposed modernist additions to Cleveland Hall violated Granville's zoning laws.

Cleveland Hall..
"Hubris!"
Now there's a noninflammatory title for an article.
I'm thinking that singlepie loves it :)
Lots of important things to get upset about
There are a few people in Granville who have spent a lot of time, money, and energy fighting something that's not particularly important.
Maybe folks don't know it because they live in Granville, but Licking county has a lot of poverty. Why not spend your time and anger on that? Or healthcare? Or anything else that is a little less self-interested?
I suggest you folks examine your priorities.
Assumptions and Insults: the Spearman comment
You might consider that Granville residents are able to take action on protecting the historical district as well as help those in need throughout the county. You might also consider examining your own prejudices and stereotypes. Why are you so angry at people based on their place of residence??
?
Maybe Spearman wasn't thinking of every Granvillian in his pointed remarks...I suppose it's possible that he is a Granvillian himself.
I was not even absolutely sure of whom he originally was complaining...although I did have a guess.

Hubris
Spearman has a point.
But, I don't go to the Granville Press for coverage on Darfur. I'm not sure why I go here at all..other than curiosity.
Hubris
After thinking about it, what the GP needs is a better sports page and better coverage of Britney Spears.
