Trustees Meet But Do Not Discuss Revising Owens Application

The Granville Township Trustees held their regular meeting tonight, but no mention was made of the Ohio Jobs Ready Sites Program application that contains plans to bring Southwest Licking Community Sewer and Water District (SWL) utilities to the Owens property on Columbus Road. The Granville Village Council passed an ordinance that would provide sewer as well as water service to the Owens site. Council wanted the Trustees to amend the application to call for Village services rather than SWL services.

Owens To Village: Thanks But No Thanks

Owens to Southwest Licking: Thanks. At least that's how it seems. According to a story in the Sentinel, James Eckert, Director, Corporate Real Estate & Facility Management for Owens Corning, said, "While we are committed to continuing the dialog with the village on this matter, we believe that it is premature at this stage of the JRS funding review to be committing to any specific solution."

Gated Community Proposal Withdrawn

A developer is expected to withdraw his proposal to build a 64-condominium gated community on Columbus Road after the Licking County Planning Department recommended denying the needed rezoning. The 25-acre development wants to tap into the Southwest Licking Community Water and Sewer District to permit the dense development, as well as a potential for future expansion. The Licking County Planning Commission had scheduled a hearing on the rezoning request for Monday at 7:30 pm.

Stop The Clock! Kraner Has Complied

The Granville Press "Kraner Clock" has been stopped! On August 11, Developer William Kraner transferred his property to Ike's Pond Inc., which appears to be a Schottenstein law firm shell company. He placed restrictions on the property as called for in his agreement with Granville Schools. Then, on that same day, he had the property, now with the restrictions, transferred back to him. He and his wife signed the original deed restrictions June 30.

Rob Montgomery: New BZBA Board Member

At its meeting Wednesday evening, the Granville Village Council chose Rob Montgomery to fill the vacancy on the Board of Zoning and Building Appeals (BZBA) left by the resignation of Chairman Bill Heim. Montgomery of 215 S. Prospect Street, is a life insurance actuary currently working for a large re-insurance company. He is a 13-year resident of Granville.

Planning Commission To Review Seven Applications

The Planning Commission has seven new applications on its agenda for Monday, August 25, 2008 at 7:00 pm. All of the applications are for work within the historic district (Architectural Review Overlay District). One application, submitted by the Granville Ohio Historical Society, is for completion of work already undertaken to remove a door on the north side of the museum. The Planning Commission had denied a previous application for this project on July 28.

Mayor's Court Generated Over $12,000 For The General Fund

Granville's monthly Mayor's Court Report shows $14,667 collected during the month of July which permitted a transfer of $12,052 to the village's general fund.

Council To Select One Of Three Applicants For BZBA

At its meeting Wednesday evening, the Granville Village Council will decide how to fill the vacancy on the Board of Zoning and Building Appeals (BZBA) left by the resignation of Chairman Bill Heim. Three Granville residents, Brian Krieg, Rob Montgomery, and Steven Timmons have each submitted an application.

Governor Strickland To Support Southwest Licking For Owens?

The Granville Township Trustees are seeking $5 million in state funds to help Owens Corning develop the site of its research park. But, there has been opposition to the grant's proposal that the Southwest Licking Community Water and Sewer District supply the sewer services to the site. In an email to fellow Granville Township Trustee Wes Sargent, Trustee Bill Habig stated that "I plan to ask the governor's help and that of my pals in ODOD."

Each month at Granville Village Council's second meeting, the Granville Police Department reports on police activities during the previous month. Presented here is the report for July, 2008. The report also presents figures for the previous month (June, 2008) and the same month the previous year (July, 2007).

Burg Street Paving Bricks For Sale

The Village of Granville will be auctioning surplus equipment items, including paving bricks from Burg Street, on Saturday, August 23, 2008 beginning at 10:00am at the Village Service Department at 1833 Lancaster Road. All items are in working order and will be sold to the highest bidder.

"Middle School is no longer at risk"

The Ohio Annual Yearly Progress Report (AYP) is a federally-required measure. Every school and district must meet AYP goals that are set for reading and mathematics proficiency, test participation, attendance rate, and graduation rate. Last year, the Granville Middle School failed to meet the reading proficiency standards and was placed in the "At Risk" category by the Ohio Department of Education. This year's report will not be available to the general public until the last week of August, but the school administration has received a preliminary copy.

Granville Police Drive 9,000 Miles Per Month Getting 10 MPG

The Granville Police Department owns five cars that in total are driven nearly 9,000 miles each month. The cars average only 10.25 miles per gallon. Assuming $4.00 per gallon of gasoline, the police department is spending over $40,000 per year on fuel.

Water To Owens: Granville Out And Southwest Licking In?

The Granville Township Trustees are seeking $5 million in state funds to help Owens Corning develop the site of its research park. Among other things, the Trustees are seeking $1.2 million to lay a two-mile sewer line along Columbus Road, connecting the Pataskala-based Southwest Licking Community Water and Sewer District to the Owens Corning property. According to the application, water is to be supplied by the Village of Granville which currently services the property. However, Southwest Licking also was asked to provide water.

Burke Hall Receives A New Lighting Plan

The Planning Commission reviewed Denison's latest proposal for changing the lighting of Burke Hall. An earlier plan was approved by the Commission on May 12 but was appealed before Village Council. Council remanded the plan back to the Planning Commission. Denison then revised the plan and re-submitted it. The latest plan was approved by a 4 to 0 vote.
